Fast Facts: Manitoba is located in central Canada just north of the U.S. states of North Dakota and Montana. The capital and largest city is Winnipeg, which is home to nearly half of the province’s population.
Manitoba Careers: The 2006 Canadian Census of Population estimated Manitoba’s population at over 1.1 million. The services sector offers the greatest proportion of jobs, led by wholesale and retail trade, healthcare services and the important finance, insurance and real estate industries.
Manitoba Economy: The unique arctic wildlife offered by the “polar bear capital of the world” attracts millions of tourists each year. In addition, agricultural production is based in the southern half of the province with Portage la Prairie serving as Canada’s potato producing center.
