Fast Facts: The largest province in Canada, Quebec is located in the east-central region of the country. While Quebec City is the provincial capital, the largest and most prominent city is Montreal. Quebec is the only province in which French is the sole official language.
Quebec Careers: A Canada Census of Population in 2006 estimated Quebec’s population at nearly 7.5 million. Montreal was ranked 22nd in a “Quality of Life Global City Ranking” by Mercer in 2009. Five of Quebec’s universities rank in the US News top 20 Canadian colleges.
Quebec Economy: Quebec boasts one of the more diverse economies in Canada including the prominent agriculture, manufacturing and technology industries. The St. Lawrence River Valley is the heart of Quebec’s agricultural sector and the Ungava Bay region includes valuable iron ore reserves. In addition, Hydro-Quebec is the world’s largest hydro-electricity producer.
